Below the lower left quadrant of the sweatshield. " 1./Fallsch.Jager Rgt.1 " I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen a unit stamp on the lining of a visor before. The only ones I have ever seen were on the interior of the leather bands.

Eric, that's the only example of a stamp being put there I've ever seen. I don't think it's right.

Chris, I think you are probably right, and certainly on the surface I agree with you. I just find it strange that anyone making a legitimate (and notice I said "legitimate")attempt at fooling anyone would place this stamp here, when every real one in the known universe is under the sweatband. Just find it odd (...and maybe that was the whole point)

Giday Eric,

I don't think the practice of the "faker" is odd at all.

I suspect that very few collectors would know that unit markings were stamped on the inside face of the leather lining. Accordingly, few persons when inspecting a visor cap would think to look at the inside face of the lining. However I suspect that these same less experienced collectors would be excited to see the unit marking on the material lining as hown above.

Just my thoughts.

Best wishes,

Ian
