I'd like your thoughts and comments on this thing... I've owned it since the mid 1970's and finally dug it out of storage. I remember it being different, but now that I've taken a few photos, I was wondering what your opinions are...

The shell is made of aluminum and the liner is a heavy leather. The liner fingers are sewn to an even heavier stiff leather band. If you look in the interior, you can see the non-painted aluminum casting color.

A movie prop by chance? What are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance...

My guess, since I am at work and don't have Baer's book at hand, is that it is commercially produced helmet used in the 20's - 30's. I'll try to see if I can find out more.
Cheers,

I have searched and cannot find a reference to such a helmet. It is definately an M16 type but I simply can't find that these were produced in aluminum. Perhaps it is a private manufacture for parade use? I hope someone else may be able to shed some light on this.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi,
I have an identical helmet in the green finish. I do not have any info on it, however I have always considered it to be a movie prop. It's quite crude when compared to both the issued service helmets and the private purchase parade helmets.
