Well here is a cross with that "worn on the battlefield" look. This has been on a reputable dealers site for quite a while & I just visited again & was surprised to see it still there. Being sold as original of course but I am sure that if it was OK it would have been snapped up long ago. I remember reading a thread somewhere that on the L12 the suspension ring does not run into the rim like on this one? dont know much about these, not my subject but I am curious because the general appearance of the items looks very well aged & distressed & quite convincing if it is a fake.
Makes you wonder

Definitely a bad one. Who's the "reputable" dealer?

Thanks for the response, Glad that my instinct was right! The dealer selling this is Michael D Long & a well established militaria dealer here in the U.K. I guess there are all kinds of dealers!
It is very disappointing to know that someone someday is going to get caught with that one, when for many the only real security that they feel in a market awash with fake rubbish is to buy from a dealer.
Cheers!
Vaughan

Michael Long is a good dealer, but Third Reich is not his area of expertise. I bought a 1796 Heavy Cavalry Trooper sword from him, and the transaction was excellent. Roy

Hello,
I believe Mike passed away but his wife runs things now and Third Reich is not her area either. I will say however, I have purchased from this dealer's website because I knew what I was looking at. Once I sorted through the fakes and found what I wanted I got a fair price and great service.
