Below is a link, that shows the Governors of all Gau districts in Germany during the period. 44 in all. SA districts were compromised of a smaller number. Although for the most part for the early SA collectors, rarely we will know the identity of the original owner of an SA dagger we have in our possession. But on this link we can at least see where the original owner was and what Heinous figure he served under. Should make for great research for someone collecting SAs with Gau marks. Below is the link. Best Regards Larry http://www.bytwerk.com/gpa/gauleiter.htm

Interesting link. Some had lengthy careers. Curious, if anyone knows, what was the salary ?
And how did the salary compare to the averagfe wage of the day ? I am sure there were many, many perks.

Well, contrary to common opinion the stampings on the SA crossguards are NOT, I repeat NOT what is known as "Gau markings". They are SA group markings.GAU is for NSDAP, SA GRUPPE is for SA and they are not the same thing. In the 3rd Reich there was many more "GAUs" than SA groups. For example: Gau "Schleswig-Holstein" was SA Gruppe HANSA (Ha). What stamp do we have on daggers "Gau" or SA Gruppe ???
Some SA groups had the same names as Gaus, but many had different.
Anyway, thanks for the intersting link Smile

Hi Adam Thanks for the correction. I think because (like you said) "some" SA groups had the same name Gaus and led me and others to believe that,,it was one in the same. Cheers to you Smile Larry
