Just curious, did anyone go and return with some polizei related treasures? I know someone ended up with a spectacular police saddle blanket.

IMO: Dave there were slim pickings in the police category. You're right on inre. to the saddle blanket! Jim

Dave and all,
You are correct, the uniform pickings were slim to none, except for a few at Joe W's table.
The SOS is rapidly becoming a US show; I'll bet it was 50% US, plus web gear and miscelleaneous stuff.
However, there were polizei items scattered about the show. There were at least three items: an excellent administrative peaked visor, a mint gilt cartouche box eagle, and a beautifully embroidered officer's grade sleeve eagle, with black eye (too bad it was ragged at the edges, or I would have taken it home), all of which were still there Saturday evening, and went home with the dealers, I assume.
I did bring home a very nice polizei officer's grade overseas cap, something I have been looking for for a long time.

Well, I saw some decent police stuff at the show. In addition to the Verwaltungspolizei visor at Gerard's table he also had an outstanding VWP field tunic. There were several nice uniforms but most were overpriced (IMHO) and they went back home with the dealers.
Joe had some nice goodies and I saw items move off his table as well as others if they were priced right.
I had a good show and picked up a couple of nice goodies that I will have to photograph. Here is one of my finds.

Nice find George! I think we are speaking in terms of relative scarcity here. At least IMO; There was a lot more police items to choose from a couple of years ago. I also did not spend that much time cruising the show this year as I was helping a friend with his tables. Jim

I was also a table whore, so I didn't get out much but I did hear of a nice rural police buckle that Waler Dudgeon had and sold relatively cheaply, and I saw some neat early police helmets.

It is great to read the reports coming in!!
George, that is a fine looking eagle on white...does it have the attachment devices on the rear? By chance, was the admin. visor you mentioned made by Cobra?

They just seem to see me coming and jump into other's arms Dave.....new avitar I see. Very fitting. Is that off of a flag or banner? Regards, Bill Unland

Hi Bill,
The avatar is actually the police emblem from the cover of the Knotel folio. Now if I could just figure out how to shrink it further for use at that other forum!

Thanks for the kudos on the white birdie guys. It has been on a tunic but it was sewn on. Here is a shot of the back.
Dave, I don't recall the maker on the VWP visor. The tunic was the six button field tunic with the same color collar just like mine. These are scarce as hen's teeth in this configuration. I presume the visor went with the tunic originally but I don't know.
Bill, I did not see a WSP officer sleeve eagle but I had one guy try to sell me an aluminum Feuerwehr sleeve eagle on blue as a Wasserschutzpolizei. No convincing him that the WSP eagle was gold. Oh well, he can think what he wants to I suppose.

OK, here is a picture of a Polizei Torinster pack that I picked up at SOS. Pretty nice pony hair but the interior mess kit bag has been removed (as usual). Other than the removed bag it is in nice shape and was manufactured in 1937 just in time to occupy Austria and the Sudetenland.

Interior view of the pack showing the police markings. I always flip these guys open on the off chance they will be police marked. It paid off this time.
Who else has goodies to show from the SOS?

Gents,
One of the things that I very consistently do is to look for new fakes at SOS. I always visit the reproduction guys as well as the Czechs, Russians, Japanese, etc. who bring with them the latest and greatest fakes. I found a few...
While I saw a couple of the fake police style SS camo jackets last year, I only saw two wildly overpriced originals this year (that have not sold in years). These reproduction jackets are now available for around $150 in Germany but they are not as good as the fakes I saw last year.
I saw more fake SG42 tool bayonets this year (around half-dozen). These new reproductions are currently available for around $250 in the US.
I saw several fake green on black Panzer Police wool eagles, all different. I saw one fake Teno Police eagle that somebody bought for $80 from the Czechs. The usual complement of fake eagles were in evidence but these stand out.
I saw several fake police badges such as a heavyweight Schi-Fhrer, High Gendarmerie, and Hilfspolizei Tyrol. Joe looked at the badges more closely than I did but frankly they looked good from a distance without picking them up to examine them. Be careful!
I saw one fellow get burned on a "police" Walther PPK with improper postwar applied markings. I saw an East German flare pistol and holster that had fake eagle & swaz die stamped markings even though the holster retained the DDR MdI markings and date of manufacture. These guns are good instances of someone with more money than knowledge as they were obviously wrong.
Anybody else with observations on fake police stuff at SOS?
George
