I found this helmet a few years ago at an antique store. It was painted over black but the liner and chinstrap looked ok to me so I bought it. I went to an auto body repair supply house and bought a product that removes a top layer of paint but leaves the undercoat intact. I knew that helmets were painted over black and issued to the HJ. The decals are something I did out of boredom one day so they are bogus. But I am curious about the helmet itself and the liner and chinstrap. As you can see in the pictures some remnants of the softer black paint are on the inner rim. Any opinions or advice on this one? What would be a ballpark figure on value? Thanks in advance for any information.

is it the photo or does it have 9 fingers ? if so its a very large helmet, but the stamp looks to be a 66, so i say not original to helmet, value without repro decals u.k. price around the 100 150 mark.

Thank you for the reply Phil. I did another indepth look at the liner and liner band. On the side of the liner band on the same side as the shell size stamp is 66n over 59. Helmet size and head size. On the other side of the liner band is D.R.P. Schuberth-Werk G.m.b.H. Braunschweig 1937 Manufacturer and date, the liner does have 9 fingers. My research is from Ron Weinand's co-authored book on helmets volume 1. Maybe if Ron has time and see's this post he could shed some light on the 9 fingered liner.
Thanks again for the information Phil. I think possibly the liner may be a Norwegian replacement liner as it is affixed to the liner band with domed rivets instead of flat head rivets. Finally the liner size is ink stamped with a circle with 59 inside of it. So, I agree the liner is not original to the helmet.
