Hello, I can use help to I.D. this Heer dagger i just aquired, The patina is throwing me off. It has a glass grip and i know Wittman mentions in his book that these were sometimes put together using parts bought from the larger makers excess stock, i.e special orders. The grip fits the blade tang perfectly but has a chip in the grip as pictured. Also their is a number etched on the crossguard and scabbard throat (6484552). Any help from someone with a more experienced eye would be appreciated. ericwien@hotmail.com Thanks Eric

Eric Crossguard and pommel look like HERDERs to me. Straight across top of head w/no dip...... Could very well be Herder or someone that bought parts from them and put it together?

I have to agree with the crossguard, it definately appears to be a Herder. I was about to post Spitzer for pommel and scabbard until I saw Dennies post and bow to his superior knowledge , unfortunately a glass grip still eludes my collection.....they are in a class of their own. I wonder what the number refers to on the rear of the x-guard

Thanks Gentlemen, The numbers appear on the scabbard throat too, this is only a guess but if it were bought through a taylor it might be the ticket/receipt number or even the officers serial number, i wish i knew. Eric
