I believe that Robert's idea is very good. I used the same approach for my "Nachrichtenoffiziere der Waffen-SS" and "F�hrerliste der Waffen-SS" publications and they have been successful. Even though I had a co-titel in English of "Signal Officers of the Waffen-SS" people mainly refer to it by the German title, even English speakers. It just makes sense.

It's a nice idea to keep the title in German, but not practical when the bulk of the market will be in America, Canada and the UK.

How about "Himmler's Sacred Order" with a subtitle "An illustrated guide to Der Totenkopfring der SS"

It pretty much sums up the book, keeps the Germanic aspects intact, but also does not undermine the importance these rings had to both the men who earned them, and Himmler himself.

What a fun topic! I don't have any suggestions for your book title. My only contribution is to compile and alphabetize the previous suggestions. I thought it would be helpful for everyone. My apologies to anyone if I missed their suggestion. Perhaps one of these is the lucky winner.

I just saw this thread today and thought I would add two just for fun off the top of my head. How about " The SS Totenkopf Ring From It's Runic Beginning To The Ruins Of Berlin ", or " It Sarted With A Twisted Dream, The Legend Of The Totenkopf Ring ".

( That last one has a ring to it ).

Just an update on this contest. Coburg22 won the contest, as you all know (interesting that his winning entry was also his first post on GDC). The reason I picked his entry was that I found that it perfectly encapsulated the historical significance of the Totenkopf Ring and why it is so fascinating to me. As the book will show, the ring is really a "marker" whose history closely parallels the rise and fall of the Third Reich. It also did not glorify the SS, which is something that a book on this subject could easily do. James: Please email me with your address and other contact information.
