I have just finished my first attempt of a TM listing/record book for dress bayonets. See pictures. The first section (16 pages) is for new collectors. It covers the construction of the dress bayonet, different types, etc. The second section has 22 pages of TM's/distributor marks with most having pictures. This can be used as a reference and record log. I am at this time sending some copies out to certain individuals so they can give me some feed back. This has been a fun project for me. I am not at this time selling them, maybe in the future.

Terry,
VERY professional looking job, I really think you should market this when you can. I believe it has a lot of potential for beginners and seasoned veteran collectors alike.

Terry has kindly sent me a copy of his TM Listings/Record Book. Having read through it, I think this is a superb guideline to help collectors understand the construction of the German Extra SeitenGewehr. It covers all of the basic crossguard, pommel and blade configurations along with blade lengths. It also touches upon the minefield of grip types, grip emblems and crossguard markings. This book does not delve into political and social history of the KS98. That's already been wonderfully done by one of our GDC members (Orpo). Nor does it cover the blade etchings which has also been well-handled by one of our members (von Ryan). The section covering Trademarks & Distributors (22 pgs.) is about the same as viewing Terry's "Bayonet TM's" thread here in the BCN Forum. EXCEPT, the pictures & names are together which makes quick reference much easier. This is all done in a loose-leaf notebook style which makes additions and changes easy. I'm certainly not a professional book reviewer but I think this is something that can easily find a place on collector's shelves. (that is, if we can talk Terry into publishing it)
Terry is making some minor adjustments to the book while I'm trying to talk him into putting a price on it to share with other collectors. He is still undecided at this point. I'm trying to get him to run several copies so we can put them out on my table at the SoS. What better way to test the waters! If he agrees, I'll be sure to let you all know. BTW, my tables are at E9-11

Superb looking book, well done Terry. I particularly like the loose leaf format making upgrades and additions a simple matter.
It would be a great shame if you were not to publish this after so much hard work and dedication to the subject. I'd definitely like to get my hands on one. So add me to the list please.
As Denny says it certainly has a place on collectors shelves.
Good luck with the project.

Forgot to mention it earlier but it also contains a page listing 74 makers & distributors of Fireman's bayonets. This was compiled by Billy G.

Terry, Glad you were able to put forth a collectors guide for the dress bayo type/TM collectors. It's a work long over due. I'm anticipating a copy myself, and look forward to the updates in the future. Thanks, Steve.

Just a heads up to anyone attending the SoS.
Terry has printed up a very limited number of books which will be available at my table. First come - first served. Also he has added ten more examples in the trademark section which brings the total to 180, and added four pages on scabbards. Price for the book is $25 for color or $20 for B&W.

I wanted to add that I received a copy from Terry last week and have looked at it each day since. It's got a lot of interesting tidbits of info, great pictures and the trademark listing is superlative considering many of these marks were not listed anywhere or even shown/mentioned in Fisher's guide as bayonet manufacturers/distributors until Terry, Denny and I submitted photographs of them.

Thanks for all the kind words. But as with all reference material, it couldn't have done if it were not for the help of fellow collectors. Denny and Billy have supplied me with a large number of pictures. Others have all sent me some, Ray Dole, Seany, Steven C., Bayonut, Jeff Burnish, and Aronld Stoke. If I have missed anyone, I apologize. After putting this simple guide together it gives me a greater appreciation of those that have written a large and historical factual book. Mine is from experience of collecting dress bayonets. My main purpose of doing this was to help me keep track of what I have and what is needed. If you have never seen me at a show, Im the one with my small reference guide in my back pocket. After looking at thousands of TMs they seem to all look alike.

I just thought I would let the people know that bought my guide at the SOS show that they will get a free update of the TM pages at the next SOS show.

Guys, I did purchase one of Terry's books at the S.O.S. and I am very happy with it. The book provides both valuable reference and places to record collection information. The price is also low enough that anyone can afford it. Anyone with more than a passing interest in Dress Bayonets should have this one! Best regards to all---Jeff Bernish/Tenmile Creek Antiques
