Is there such a thing as an Imperial Officer's Naval Dagger made of steel and not brass? The scabbard and hilt pieces are all magnetic. The gilding is mostly present and looks almost like thin paint. The maker is "ACS" w/scales , Alexander Coppel Solingen. As I understand, there were only two major manufacturers producing these Naval dirks during that period, WKC & Eickhorn. It has a very high vaulted open crown pommel. The blade etch is quite nice with a deep sailing ship motif, stamped maker mark. I would love to post images of this dagger, but because of the format in which they were sent to me, I can only send the images to you via email.

I would greatly appreciate all opinions..

It sounds like the piece is most likely correct.
From time to time I've also seen hunting and forestry weapons having magnetic fittings where there were normally those of brass. I'd also say this anomaly is much more prevalent with imperial, rather than TR period edged weapons.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck ...

yes ive also had one of these that was 100% straight ,also a navy kindersabel the same construction,gilt over iron.

These are thought to have been made during the first war. Apparently there was more steel than brass.

I know it's hard to do without images or actually holding the item, but say it's in pretty good condition, the blade and etch are excellent plus. On the average, what would a steel Imperial Naval dagger in excellent condition be worth? Are these desirable by collectors?
