Dear Eric,

A very handsome cap and an interesting example.

The cap was most likely worn by an NCO as it has the distinctive "pinch" in the front, a styling element popular among the NCO ranks.

It also is a private purchase cap as opposed to an issue version. Such fine caps were not just for Officers, but could be purchased by NCO's and Enlisted ranks.

One of the requirements concerning such caps was that they be "proofed" by the unit to ensure that the cap conformed to regulations. That proof mark is the stamping seen under the sweatband of this cap. Looks like (IR) Infantry Regiment 66 or 88 (The photo is dark and I could not make it out).

The diamond on this cap seems to be completely gone and with it the makers marking. Although a slight impression remains in the lining, I could only guess that it looks a little like the Clemens Wagner or Otto Schlientz logo.

Still a fine example even if you don't know who the maker may be.

Great looking hats Eric. The second one is for an officer and the black piping is for "Pioniere".

Dear Eric,

I am glad that I was able to offer some help with the cap. The other cap you show is indeed an Officer and the very dark green piping would indicate Administration.

When put side by side you get a good comparison between a "Pinched" and "Saddle Shaped" visor cap.

Regards,

Is the Cocade vented (little holes in the red circle) on the eReL Admin Visor?

Your NCO visor also shows that graceful aging and wear that I do not think can be reproduced quite that way yet.
