Phatt, I have never seen a card exactly like this one, but I'm sure it is OK. $30 is also an OK price. You can't but any kind of Third Reich items for $30, so buy it. Also, if you're interested in post cards try this site-- [email protected]

Honestly, I don't like that card.
The photo is from a cigarettes-collectible-pictures album, very common pics you get everywhere.
But what concerns me most, is the stamp. It is not a postal stamp. This card wouldn't have been delivered by the german post offices.
If this card would have been used as a christmas greetings card, send by the leader of the Sturm 1 Standarte 75 to his men, the usage of a 1 Pfennig Hindenburg stamp wouldn't make sense without a postal stamp. These two things just do not fit together.
Maybe it was really done like this, a unique example of a christmas card, but there are too many "if's" for me. I would not spend money on it.
Just my personal opinion.

Robert-

Interesting thoughts.

I'm trying to learn a little more on determining if 3rd Reich postcards are original.

Can you say exactly what the 1 Pfennig Hindenburg stamp on this example was supposed to be used for and generally what kind of postage would you like to see on this?

Thanks

Hello Dean,

it is just the fact, that a postcard in the 3rd Reich had to be prepayed with 6 Pfennig and not with 1 Pfennig.
So the 1 Pfennig black Hindenburg stamp is wrong.
The second fact is that the postal office would stamp the postcard with a certain stamp of the local post-office - not with a unit stamp.

Feldpost postcards didn't need to be prepayed, however some are prepayed. Mail from the soldiers to their homes was free. In these cases there were no stamps, but the unit-stamp with the fieldpost number had to be on it.
But the card that Phatt shows here, isn't a Feldpost card anyway.

A few examples to show how regular postcards that really had been mailed and delivered by the Reichspost should look alike.

Hope that explain my concerns.

As said before, there is only the chance that this postcard was prepared by somebody who didn't care about post regulations and the card was delivered personally and not by the Reichspost.

Kind regards
Robert

The more I look at the Hitler Photo post card being offered for $30.00, the more I question almost everything about it. I believe it may be a complete fabrication and probably has little or no value.

As has been stated above, the 1 pf stamp would hardly have been enough to carry a postcard in those days in Germany. The cancellation on this stamp is not a German Government postal cancellation which would have had the date and the city on it. It would not have been in red ink but the usual black ink. The Photograph of AH looks to have been pasted onto a standard postal card form, and was not there originally. The actual usage of the 1 pf stamp was to pay for small additional postage to complete the required rate to mail letters etc. Sometimes you see it "favor" cancelled by a special postmark. I have included some interesting covers from my collection which do so various proper usages of these German postage stamps.

Here is a postcard from the period using the required 6 pf stamp with an addition of a non demominational Hitler Vignette.

Nice examples Jerry. Your last postcard with only 5 Pfennig instead of 6 - it could be that it was cheaper because of being a business postcard and not a private postcard. It's called a "Drucksache" or as you say "Printed Matter" which is always a bit cheaper.

You talk about the cancellation - exactly right, that's what I meant too, but I missed that word. I only knew stamp for Briefmarke and also stamp for Stempel. Cancellation is much better.

By the way, unused original stamps from the 3td Reich are very common, cheap and available in great numbers.

Kind regards
Robert

I think I'm gonna buy it and examine it closely. This is going to be on a group buy, with other good documents. The price maybe look low but here in Greece very few people collect ww2 German militaria and even fewer sell them, so you usually see high prices for cheap stuff and low prices for good stuff. The seller says that this card's income was for the luftwaffe support but that doesn't mean nothing to me probably he is inapt.
