I picked this one up last week at an Antique shop my parents sell in. The guy I got it from likes to think of himself as a big military dealer but always shows his find to another dealer here for pricing. So there are rarely any bargains to be had. This one must have slipped by him. I got it for $211...

I was so shocked at the price I looked it over for 20 minutes to be sure there was nothing wrong with it. (he does have some klinkers in his case) It has a rough camo coating still on 40% of it. The chinstrap is dated 1937. It made my day!

Lovely helmet if you want to double your money let me know . A Klinker in America is obviously different from a Clinker in England .Rob

It can still happen Big Grin

By "klinkers" I mean he has some "questionable" items. I am sure most antique shops world wide see this, some good pieces mixed in with some bad pieces. That way the dealer can hide behind the anonymity of the shop. Funny thing is, I know he gets most of his pieces checked over by another dealer (who does know his stuff) so the bad stuff in there isn't a mistake, it's deliberate.

OK Rob......who`s gonna enlighten our friends on the definition of a clinker? Big Grin Big Grin
Jerry that is a very nice helmet & an even better price. The bargains are still to be had but few & far between. I`ve had 2 bargains in 4 yrs & it does make your day! I regard it as just balancing the books on the stuff I might have paid over the odds for. Congrats!

I remeber a clinker was the residue that came out of the firebox of the steam engine we used to lay in down on our drive way for traction in the winter during the 50s the last days of steam. Now a clunker was the poor old car we could afford

Jerry, nice helmet for a great price. I've also used the word clunker for other types of "junkly" items besides cars but I'm sure the term originated from a discription of a car that was not in very good shape. Ray
