This month I visited my son Douglas in Hamburg ,Germany, for 3 weeks and during this time we went to a small militaria show where I found these Justice Police collar tabs and shoulder boards. Posted by Bernd.

...and a close-up. Looks like the crossed swords were for a guy on horse back --or were to indicated that he was a trained rider.

I need advise on this problem : some boards have paper and thick ,clear glue on the back--as someone had glued them to a paper board ! How do I get this off---or should I just leave it alone , since it seems some of the wool will come off also . Thanks for any help with this . Bernd .

Hello,

Nice items. A field ignored by most police collectors.

That white glue will not come off without damage to the wool felt. I would advise leaving it alone. There is no solvant I know of that will remove the stuff once set. To my knowledge, and I am not current on this, conservators remove it by flaking it off with a scalpel!

W.Unland

Bernd,

I tend to agree with Bill about the glue. Physically scraping it off is the only way I know of to remove it. I would probably leave it alone.

Here is a photo of your green Justiz shoulder boards in use. Good catch in Germany!

Bernd, very nice insignia! I've only got one pair of Justice ranks straps, somewhere, I need to find some more!

George,
I recognize that sweet looking board!

George,

Is that last picture of that really nice tunic you scored that came with some paperwork?

Hi, Nice looking insignia. I usually remove the glue from stuff that I pick up that was in an alblum. It does remove some of the wool surface. I use a small paint brush, some MEK solvent and a scapel/x-acto knife with a fresh blade and a lot of patience. Work on a small area at a time and get the 'feel' of how long it takes for the solvent to do it's job(if at all, depending on the adhesive used)and carfully scrape away the glue/paper. This is a personal thing and you just need to decide whether or not to 'clean' stuff or leave well enough alone. Some things should never be 'cleaned' of course. Wink

The crossed swords emblem looks to me like it's one of those crossed swords items from the front of a modern German M43-style cap. Does anyone have one of these W.German caps with that badge for a comparison??

Dave,

Yes, that is the tunic with some documentation from the owner that you were thinking of. A very nice outfit that originally came from another forum member.

The crossed swords are from the early west-german army, Bundeswehr, about 1955 - 1965.
Here's an officer's cap, Bergmütze:

Mr. Libal - is the embroidery in silver or alum. wire? I'm no Police expert, but I think after the war Germany stopped using metallic threads - which means the board is moast likely pre-or early war. Others know better.....

Here are some interesting items-they may be Justice or Prison or something else. Anyone got a clue?

Houston, I have never seen such interesting tabs. Some of them seem to have ribbon bar minitures on them. Others seem to have shoulder board pips and cyphers.

I wonder if they could be post war assembled souviers, sold to GIs?

It's very possible-all the tabs came from one old collection-but I have never seen any others-you would think there would be others around

The more I look at the insignia, the more I am convinced that they are post war assembled. Dont even think that the top few tabs are even German. They remind me of French or Belgian collar tabs. Of course, without the insignia.
