The fellow that had the Eickhorn Hirschfanger also has a PUMA marked little knife with a stag hoof hilt. It has a leather scabbard that shows some age appropriate to the WW1 period. The open portion of the actual hoof has a metal cap installed quite neatly.. The blade is in near mint condition and is factory sharpened. All in all, a very nice conditioned example.
How can I tell if this is a period example or a modern tourist souvenir? If it's WW1 period, what are these things worth?
Thanks in advance..
Mike

Thats a tough one without pictures, the WWI period deer hoof knives are worth perhaps $30/40 the more modern ones a bit less, there still making them now. As far as age is concerned all you can do is go by what it looks like, the fittings are pretty much the same now as they always were.
