I found 2 Luftwaffe swords and 3 daggers in my Father-in-laws attic in a footlocker that has not been opened since he returned from WWII.
What might they be worth? How do I find out?
Thanks

All of these items are as they came back from WWII. They have not been cleaned polished and have been touched very little since then. One of the daggers seems to have blood stains on it but I have know way of identifying them for sure.
Any clues as to value?
I have seen similar to them on the web but what is the one with the eagle head on it? It seems so have initials SM III 1041 stamped on it.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
My F-I-L was in a tank destroyer battalion and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He didn't talk much about the war and these items were found after his death late last year.

Wow!!!! What a score!!! The Luft swords are in great shape! They are of the later aluminum construction and I think sell for between $700 and $1K. The eagle head piece is a police bayonet (which I am guessing is missing the scabbard?) Whithout the scabbard and in that condition it will not be worth much... $100 at most? The last 3 are luft. daggers (1st model) and of the early nickel silver construction. From the pics. it is hard to tell but I think they are probably worth between $500-700 each. I may be off (especially on the values). If I were you I would hold on to these, they always mean more when they came from family and ahve history. But if you are considering parting with one of those Luft. swords, let me know! Good hunting! Johnny

Retimlap,
My condolences to your father in law, and my thanks for his service.
Johnny V. is dead on regarding his assessment of the daggers and the swords - and also the approximate value.

Retimlap, That's a great find !!
I think Johnny V.'s value quotation is close. Could you send us some more pics of the logos (TM) on the blades of the lufties swords and daggers. Yesterday I just bought myself a 'new' Horster luftwaffe dagger 1st model (the ones you have three) , I paid 350$ (200 euros) but that was a steal, normally in Europe they go between 600-1000 euros. Prices in USA are a lot lower. The swords may even catch more here, certainly with the hangers. BUT OFFCOURSE all depends on condition and demand.
Where are you from ??
One more remark : the blood stains??? I don't hope so, these are dressdaggers, normally they were not used to slaughter. LOL

In North Carolina, USA.
They may be dress daggers but I bet they cam off of dead officers.
I'll try to get some pictures of the "brand/logo".

Rich- You are right, I was looking at the last 3 pics. You are correct about the value, sorry about my (literal) oversight!

retimlap, I like those swords, great find. like others have stated hold on to them, they are worth much more than a few bucks when they came from a family member. If you must part with them we will help you out. Eric
