Hi this tinnie is listed in TIESTE'S BOOK at 100 euros and I have been studying his rather poor pic and comparing. It is very hard to come up with a firm opinion but I see one glaring red flag on yours when I see the nice clean new striking and appearance and then see the obvious wear on the eagles leg where there should be detail I want to run so await other opinions as I think others may be waiting for the ice to be broken on this one

Paul,,can you post a photo from the book? Are the eagles chest,,head and wreath soft on detail like this one?,,or maybe it is just this photo!

G there is no sense trying to repost a photo from this book it is right in the spine. The detail on the leg and chest for that matter is strong and raised in the pic which leads to to believe there may be a problem here .

Rhys, more in focus images should tell all. This example appears to be silver plated brass with tarnish to the "hard to get to" obverse spots. The reverse? Can't tell if it's clean as the day it was made or if there is any residue present. The pin has been bent out of shape.

No argument here but the Berlin piece just wouldn't be for me.

I agree with John regarding the date. I also wouldn't want the undated version in my collection.

the limburg/lahn piece is also listed in TIESTE'S second volume at 100 euro. The Berlin day badge is a known piece NEVER HAD A DATE and one is kries one is gau but as we know the type is a fakers prime target. The badge shown as I stated should have strong detail on the eagle legs and chest, but this badge may have been polished so in it's defence needs a close hands on exam by someone down there perhaps DJ .

by Rhys. I have two examples one bought about 15
years ago the other in the last six months.
Paulbear says the badge "should have strong detail on the eagle legs and chest" where do you
get that information from? You can see mine on
GMIC in the sa database rubbish pic but its there.


SS tinnies have a fragile reputation so its easy
to say some are bad, but i can,t see much wrong
with these.People lose confidence in items when
someone says i see a red flag, but you must back
this up with evidence.

JOHN if you READ the thread the evidence is given ref TIESTE VOL 1 PAGE 51 berlin 00-36. I do not beak off without doing some homwork and my opinion stands with this tinnie

You have your opinion on this badge, and i respect that. But to cite as evidence, a grainy
image from Tieste,s book i find a bit odd. You
can,t make a call on a badge from pictures in a
book, the ones i have examined don,t exhibit
that strong detail on chest and feet. How ever
i will leave it at that, and we can agree to differ on this one

The picture in the book is quite clear actually or I would not have made the statement. The other members who are true tinnie collectors have this volume and there is no challenge with only a couple posts you might want to sit back and watch a bit before you flame a member there is a history of knowledge and trust here anyhow welcome to the forum

After reviewing both examples of the tinnie in question I note the protective end of the pin where it extends over the sharp point is a different configuration than normally seen. I first thought it had been twisted and bent down due to damage, but not on both examples. Am aware of two period styles and this is not one of them.
