Simply put...........stunning. I doubt if you will ever see a better conditioned helmet. I don't like the term "mint" when describing helmets. But this helmet is as close to "mint" as you are ever going to see. Top, top shelf.

Tom,
I see you have perfected your time-machine. You'll have to tell us all about your visit to the Quist factory because this has to be where this beauty came from...factory fresh! Wow!
Cheers,
Darryl

Sorry for my ignorance on this question as Im not a helmet collector per se..the "border" seen around the decal itself is this an applied laquer or glue? I was under the imprssion this is laquer of some sort..if so..was a template placed over the decal with this border to allow the "lacquer" or material to be nicely applied so uniformly and precisely? Also..if laquer was it brush applied or sprayed, as the preciceness of the application looks like a spray application, these are just guesses on my part and would sppreciate the wisdom of the experts here on this subject...Thanks !

Scott,
To be honest, I believe the lacquer (not glue) was hand applied by brush. Pre-war days allowed for time and precision. As time progressed, some helmets received multiple applications of decals with a reissue re-paint.
Later in the war, water transfer decals were used which allowed a quicker application and less need for lacquer.

As a helmet new-bee I musty say this must be the best condition one could hope for. I wonder if the helmet collectors are like the dagger collectors some guys like them mint and some like them salty.
