Hi all, I just purchased a Type I 1936 chained SS dagger for around $5700 and have an inspection period. Recieved the dagger yesterday and it has a large lower cross guard tang hole that the blade does not cover. This gap was not illustrated in the pictures or description. Please see pictures. I was told by the seller this is seen on occasion on later produced daggers.
I would appreciate your opinion wether I should return or not? Can any one tell me if they have seen this large of a gap on other original dagger? Does it effect resale value?
Your thoughts are appreciated.
Kalvin aka blademan
Thanks, Blademan

front side of blade. This was the side that was shown in the description of the dagger.
Thanks, Blademan

Poor fit is possible on late daggers, but that would bother me too.

I have seen poor fit on late daggers but nothing at all like that crossguard hole you show in the picture.
I would return the dagger.

When you're paying that sort of money, I would get my money back too. Thankfully you have that option.

No question in my mind: return it. I've never seen that bad a fit on an original dagger.

No way it came from the factory that way. It is true the later daggers, and even a few of the earlier ones, have less than perfect lower crossguards fits, but that is ridiculous!

Thank you to every one who left their input on this issue. Thanks in part to your input, I have decided to return this item and I guess I am in the market for a different Chained SS dagger.
Thanks again, Kalvin

Hey Guy, Just a by the by, looking at the wood hanging over the bottom crossguard and in general, it does not look like the grip is made of Ebony! That would instantly queer it for me, not even seeing the gap. 3FL
