If your referring to the 1st SS-Fuss-Standarten they would have been wearing the standard Allgemeine uniform of the day required for SS Abschnitt formations. Collar tabs and cuff titles would be numbered, enlisted mens collar tabs would have the alternating aluminum and black cord. Black was still the order of the day at that point. Rick

Dear 1stss, I'm not quite sure from your phrasing, is your question "what was the insignia worn in 1929?" I believe the numbered standarte system came into being during 1930, (before this documents refer to this group as Munich Staffel I). So, in 1929 the only SS insignia would have likely been the brassard and the badges on the kepi and possibly rank tabs for officers. Later the collar patch was a numeral "1". The black and white cord piping around the patches was for leaders' rank, (silver piping for Sturmbannfuehrer and above), and the rank and file wore white piping until 1934. The uniform was still the brown blouse at this time (1929-1932/33). The cuff title, as Rick points out, would have indicated the number of the sturm. If I have misunderstood your request let me know. Derek

Robert, Was it you that posted somewhere on the forums that terrific picture of a man wearing the "Schreck" cufftitle with a grey overcoat and black peaked cap? Derek

Gentlemen, I think we did it inadvertently, but goes to show how important nomenclature is with regard to SS formations and where they fit in the SS history timeline. Rick

Hello Derek, I am not sure. Once I was behind pictures from this Standarte. After I sold all my JS insignias the interest changed.

Dear Istss, You will have to be more precise with your questions if you expect accurate answers. Derek

Derek. You are too much of a gentleman!
1stSS. With a handle like yours, you should know all this stuff. I see you have posted the same question(s) on the 'other' forum with little or no response. I am not surprised. Please do yourself a favour and carry out some basic research before you ask questions like this. Then everyone will take you more seriously and try to help out with any genuine queries you have. Don't take this the wrong way - I really do mean it as 'friendly advice'. Nothing turns collectors off more than this sort of 'I don't know what my question is, but give me an answer' stance.

I am sorry if my question was vague and in any way mis-leading, but all I want to know is what insignia would have been on the brown shirt of that 1920s/early 30s period for Munich. Also, in reply to Mr Lumsden, although my forum name is 1st SS, I am by no means an expert on that particular period and none of my books cover that time, as it is not a particular area that I'm normally interested in, hence the vagueness of my question.I have already spent a number of hours trying to research the subject, but have been unable to find little or no information on it, hence my question on the forum.

Dear 1stss, Robin Lumsden really was offering good advice about doing research and framing your questions. These forums are prone to argument and trolling with genuine information often being lost in the mire. If the mid to late-twenties is the period you're searching for then my original answer stands: just a brassard and the badges on the kepi. The first comprehensive set of SS orders didn't appear until 1929 and specific insignia regulations came along much later. Good luck with your research, perhaps a glance at the books on the subject by a certain Scottish Police Officer might fill in some blanks. Derek
