Bad decals, at the least.

Was just about to write a conclusion myself Smile

I think the helmet is OK with the stamps and the liner - but the decals look like ....

So I guess the question is if the helmet itself is OK ?

The whole helmet is a Czech fake. There are no original atoms anywhere in it.

I agree with the others. This is a horrible copy of the "Snake Leg" decal. Also look very close to the paint in reference to the decal aging. The rough paint surface is still has some sheen to it as it should have a dull matte look to it after 60 years. As fars as the rough textured paint its self it is perfectly applied around the decal which throws up all kinds of neon signs. Next is the white dust in the pits, divets, and cracks. This is what could be a number of things, plaster dust is my guess. The liner is another dead give away. Look at the chin strap release (little leather tab) should have a metal eyelet in it. Next is the acctual alimminum band. It looks as though it was sprayed down with oven cleaner. Oven cleaner will oxidize alumminum very convincingly try this on a broiler pan and you will see what I mean. I know we all want a deal but I would pass on this lid just for these reasons as described.

Chris,

Can you add anything to the above posts on why this is a reproduction.

Well, as others have pointed out, it just doesn't look anything like an original. The shape of the shell, the fake paint, the absurd decals, the incorrect manufacture of the liner, the too-thick, wrong color, and wrong leather straps, the bogus markings on the shell and liner, the cheesy bolts.

The second best thing to do is to do a search on para helmets on this forum and compare it side by side with good ones, or to buy a few good reference books which show good helmets, such as the book "German Paratroops" by Robert Kurtz, or the Baer book, and study them.

The best thing to do is go to major shows such as the SOS and handle originals and acquire knowledge and experience BEFORE investing any money in the hobby.
