Gents,
It is a sign that you have too much stuff when you stumble across something you forgot you had. While rummaging around for something else I found a cache of Hungarian Gendarmerie magazines. I forgot I even had these (much less where they were) and I thought I would share.
Here is a picture of the "Csendorsegi Lapok" magazine from 1 September 1941. The cover shows the Hungarian Gendarmerie uniform with the distinctive black laquered hat with feather.

A photo of the Police Academy class at Ludovika from the same issue of the magazine. An interesting uniform shot.

Orpo,
Interesting magazines! If you ever want to "lose" them again you can always send them in my direction! I have never seen one of the Csendor plumed hard hats outside of a museum. They did not survive the Russian campaign and disappeared soon after the Csendor arrived there. Since the Csendor bore quite a stigma in Hungary following the war they were disolved so no new hats were produced. There is a thread running on the Axis Allies forum that I will be posting my Csendor tunic on shortly plas a picture of the hat that took the place of the one pictured here. Thansk very much for showing the magazines.
Regards,
Gordon

Gordon,
Thanks for the information. Little is known about the Csendor here. You are in a great position to dig up some information and I would love to see your uniform. Perhaps you can post a photo here?
I missed a very nice Csendor short sword at a local gun show here a couple of years ago because the fellow could not agree on a price since he had not idea what it was worth. Neither did I to be truthful. Anyway, it was the style shown worn by the fellow in the background on the cover. The other sword in the foreground has an interesting arrangement with the bayonet attached that I have not seen in person either.
BTW, welcome to the forum, I am glad to see you here.
George

George,
Thanks for the welcome to the forum. I don't have much info about the Csendor. Havrm't found any books on them even in Hungarian. Totally unfamiliar with both of the swords you mentioned in your post. I'll have to go to the Military Museum and check out their uniform display. I think they have at least one Csendor uniform there. The uniform curator is busy moving from the museum to a new and larger area right now so I can not contact him until he has relocated and we can establish email contact again. Here is my Csendor uniform. No other info that it is a WWII period piece.

Gordon

Sorry that I can not display my Csendor uniform on a mannequin. The last time I put it on the mannequin I have with me a button came off. Uniform and mannequin were not a good match size wise. Here is a pic of the Csendor collar tabs.

The shoulder cords worn by the Csendor. There was one on each shoulder.

George,
I've gone through my archived photos and come up with a few that may add something to this thread. First is a photo of a Csendor, wearing the first style hat from WWII, in a very similar uniform to the one in my collection.

George,
For some reason the picture wouldn't take. Can not edit my post as I do not have that privilege in my Personal Permissions. I'll have to enail the Administrators about that.

Gordon,
Try downsizing your picture. I think it must be under 50kb in size. The collar tabs seem to have a secondary color to the red center. What color is it and is it an underlayment or butted up against the red?
I always have trouble sorting out the distinguishing marks and colors for the Gendarmerie.

Georege,
There is no secondary colour to the red centre. Colours of the collar tab are the standard Csendor outer green with the red centre. Thanks for reminding me about the picture size. I had forgotten that. I guess I was just luck with my earlier pictures. Once I getpermision to edit my own posts I'll repost the picture. I'm in Vienna this weekend. Research time at my favourite militaria store here.

Gordon

George,
I still don't have permission to edit my own posts so I guess I'll just have to post the picture again and hope it works. The last one was too large. Here is the first war time Csendor cap adopted.
Cheers,
Gordon

The last picture was without the Csendor feathers which is unusual but people wore what people wore! The next Csendor cap had a peak.

Great thread gents! I would like to get a few opinions on this gorget please. Is it original or have these been faked as well.
Thank you very much.

Marcus,
These gorgets have been heavily faked. I would estimate 90% of those you see are fake. However, I am not an expert on these particular items so I can not say one-way-or-the-other for yours. I bought mine knowing it was a fake, for display purposes, because I doubt that I will ever be able to find and buy a real one. There are more fakes of those gorgets here in Budapest than anywhere else!

Gordon

Hi Gordon!
Thanks for the reply. I figuered as much. I've been eyeing this piece for several months and it has not moved yet. Plus the price of 475.00 was just too good to be believed.
Thanks for your help.

Gordon, only little notice: Gendarm on 1st pucture you posted (cap without feathers) has peak on his cap too. This cap was very similar (in practise the same) as WW1 Austro-Hungarian caps - only it was worn in the English R.A.F. manner.

Thanks for your comments. I agree that both caps have a peak. I was just illustrating that they wore two different kinds of caps.

Hello just out of curiosity, from which years do you have copies of the csendorsegi lapok? greetings Gabor quote: Originally posted by ORPO: Gents,

Hello Gabor,
I only have a few scattered issues from wartime.
