I am looking at purchasing a KS 98 Long Version by A. Everetz Solingen that has a Nazi Eagle attached to the grips. It also has a green plug in the slot. My question is how common are grip insignia on KS 98, and also are they usually faked?

Hi, most of these should be treated with suspicion. They are more likely to be fakes then real ones (the eagle). Generally, the bayonets themselves are just fine. It would be great if you could post some pictures for us to see. Do you see any sign of glue or prongs? JAN

As Jan mentioned, these can be a real mine field, with the fakes greatly outnumbering the originals. I would especially avoid the bayonet you show here. I've never seen an original with that type of eagle attached. Any originals I've seen, had a much higher quality insignia. Look for one with this type of eagle shown below. The eagle should have some "wiggle" to it as they were attached with prongs rather than glue. The best case scenario is to take it to your local dentist to have the grip x-rayed. An original will show the prongs in the x-ray.
