Eric if your "antique dealer friend" is worth his salt offer to pay him a finder's fee if you are successful in negotiating a purchase. I can't believe that you wouldn't have already done this but perhaps you didn't think of it. No legitimate and honest person would say no to such a proposition. This way he is happy and you both hopefully walk away pleased. There does not appear to be a chance that he is going to obtain the militaria so it becomes a win/win for both of you. Write out an agreement if that is what is needed. You know the value of the items and also what they are perhaps better than does the dealer. If this route does not bear fruit than I am at a loss as to why the dealer won't tell you what is up. Something is a muck? cheers, Ryan

Yes the two incidents are separate,the antique dealer on the box of stuff says he knows the type of guy that has it and you cant deal with those kind of guys.I have tried everything to get the mans name.The dealer says he is waiting for the man to come back in and sell him the stuff,he says it wouldnt do any good to contact him.I said let me try and contact him if your not going to before he sells it to someone else,he got kind of mad about it.I will try offering him a finders fee to be paid only if I get the stuff bought.As for the uniforms I missed, the complete original unmessed with ss one would have been worth a lot of money from what I have seen some going for if you can find one.

Hi Eric someone having an item to sell reacts to money. I have met "guys like that" that were difficult to deal with only because they never named a price and always wanted you to make an offer. They were always fishing for the best price possible. This is not so in your case however.Your guy with the box just wants to sell the stuff and will be impressed with money offerred. As for your antique dealer guy if the stuff was worth $5000.00 and you could get it for $2000.00 and you offerred the dealer $500.00 to $1000.00 as a finder's fee who the heck would turn up their noses at that? Free Money! Something is off here and does not add up. Human nature is human nature. One has to question when something goes against the norm . cheers, Ryan

Eric... it sounds like the fellow with the goods is a local. Have you tried running a
Militaria Wanted" ad in the local paper?
I know you mention the dealer's comment about the person with the items being worried about not getting fair value for his $15. investment; that might just be the antique dealer protecting his source.

Please, save your money on the classifieds. ONLY 3% of those who read the newspapers read the classifieds. IF you are going to advertise, use a display ad and make it bigger so that it doesn't get lost below the fold.
Sometimes what people suggest on this site isn't worth the space alotted.
Use the shopper if cost is a concern.

My greatest respect to the fallen US GI's and fallen SS Men. Brave heroes to their respective countries. We can preserve this stuff for the future generations to respect as well. It may be all thats left of these guys, except the memory of them as family men or enemy combatants.
