Non-Boker made crossguards which is Ok. It has the convex rune button with the silver runes that do not touch the inner circle (also Ok). I like the serial number... wish I had a numbered SS. Smile Looks to be in pretty good shape. How about the scabbard?

Nice one. I like the patina on the crossguards.

Skyline, I'll have to check on the crossguard marks to see. I don't remember now. Everything fits like a Boker should. Scabbard and hanger looks original to the dagger. The early clip is missing the lever. The blued lever spring is present.

Dr. John, This one was not from Lakeside.

Now here's the best part. All you guys know how hard it is to find a listed officer. Well thanks to Bernie back in July, we finally got a name to the numbers.

Wagner... not trying to alarm you but I've got some issues with the etch. The "M" in Meine and the "h" in Heisst don't look right to me. Every original Boker etch has a triangular arrowhead at the bottom of the "h" in Heisst. They are the only maker that has this script.

Humm.. I'll have to do some research into that. Thanks Skyline. I always appreciate your input. And, what about that V & O marking on the crossguards? Have you seen that before? Wittmann doesn't have it listed in his book. But I can tell you that the grip and crossguards seemed like they were together for a very long time, and "snug as a bug in a rug". -wagner-

Skyline, is this motto on the Boker that you show, one of your Warhammer ink touch ups ? It has an un-natural look to the burnishing like this SA that you did.

This Boker of Mr. Wagner's has some very type characteristics that we see that more closely resemble a Hammesfahr M33, than that of a Boker. Among those features are the following:

1. Shape of the grip is closer to that of Hammesfahr than Boker.

2. "OV" caster marked crossguards which are seen on Hammesfahr SS daggers, among others. Where Bokers are mostly seen with "B" or "H"

3. High neck eagle seen mostly on Hammesfahrs where Boker almost always uses one of the "turned up beak" versions.

4. A light district mark III which is mostly seen on Hammesfahr's and seldom seen on Bokers.

5. And a motto etch that doesn't match either Hammesfahr nor Boker.

An interesting combination for sure.

Well, sorry to say that, but I don´t like the blade. Logo looks wrong in some details, so does the motto. I have a dagger with the same blade at home, so I know what red flags I´m talking about. I´m on the business trip in Berlin right now, without acces to my PC archive, so I´ll contact you, Wagner, on Wednesday and will post some pictures with details. The analysis made by JR makes the dagger even more questionable.

JR the blade I show is an untouched and unmessed with original. It's a beauty. In addition, the high neck eagles were often used by Boker on their earliest daggers. I believe the upturned beak examples are probably later manufacture.

It doesn't get much earlier than this one as the piece is a Boker Rohm Dagger with the turned up beak eagle.

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin and I think that you use more Warhammer ink than you let the boys know about.... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Just a jest. Big Grin Smile

Here's another Boker Rohm. As discussed before, as far as components and use of what insignia was used by what firm and when, too much can be inferenced and read into that.

Not sure Wagner if this is the real thing.
I think I need a close examination of that piece.
You can always send it out to me and then I can give you a correct evaluation !!!

LOL
Just kidding, great piece !!! I can only hope (and dream) to find on in this condition !!

Have fun with it !!

Hmmm... as usual Jr you will say anything to discredit me or my daggers and try and hide it with a bunch of Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin. As you well know I purchased this dagger from Peter Whamond. His picker got this untouched beauty directly from the vet. In fact, his website still shows the dagger with it's coal black, black as night burnish. And oh... guess what? It has a high necked eagle too!

http://www.germanmilitaria.com/WaffenSS/photos/S005356.html

Now all the boys can see what you are doing, eh?

Enough with the personal attacks, Jr. I'd go toe-to-toe with you but from what I hear of your stature your nose would about reach my shoulder. An unfair advantage to me. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Just a jest. Big Grin Smile
