You got a nice private purchase sawback KS98. I particularly like the black finished ones.

Anttom:

Yeah, I was bidding on it to... but the price got a little too high for me. I am glad that you got it and like it.

I have two early back to back squirrel Eickhorn bayonets, one with a two-rivet grip and one, like this one, with three. Mine is not a sawback though, making yours much more desirable.

Here are a couple early WKC bayonets The top one is a two rivet sawback (notice large TM), the bottom one has the black hilt and has the three rivet (notice the small TM). Both are short bladed.

The Carl Eickhorn private purchase kS98 sawback bayonets are by far the most common PP sawback kS98s of WWI. However, the great majority of them are designed for dress use (no clearing hole in grips, plated finish all over). This one has clearly been modified for use in the field, and is one of the first WWI era Eickhorn PP kS98s that I have seen which is clearly designed for field use. Those private purchase kS98s with blackened hilts and other attributes that suggest field use are generally more highly sought after and thus fetch higher prices, though I must say that in my opinion, $450 is quite high for this type of bayo.

I priced them with dealers before I bid on this particular Eickhorn KS98 Kurzes. I found them at prices as high as $650.00.

And THAT is exactly how dealers screw us over: by pricing $300 bayonets at $650, so when you pay $450, you think you getting a good deal, when in fact you are paying $150 more than it's worth.

The bottom line is whether or not YOU are happy with it. That's all that really matters! But you did ask what we thought, and I'm not going to lie to you. How are we supposed to learn unless someone is honest enough to tell us what something is really worth, or at last, has consistently sold for in the past (as things are worth whatever someone is willing to pay)? I made the exact same mistake once, paying $400 for one of these, only to find out from a friend that I was ripped off, and because he was honest with me, I was then able to ensure I didn't pay $400 for any $250 private purchase kS98 sawback again.

When you say $650, is there a chance you are referring to ISSUE kS98s, which are worth much more than private purchase kS98 sawbacks??

Nice pieces, terry and Anttom,I have one too, unfortunately, the bayonet is loose in the scabbard, but I only paid $130for it.Can anyone tell me if the scabbard and frog are correct for this one?It is a PP,no markings or stamps are on the bayonet, neither on the scabbard.

Kind regards,Jeremy
