The entire hat is a Janke repro from top to bottom, with artificial aging.

It's scary to those of us who don't normally collect visors! Eek

This should go in the reproduction forum column.

When the person offered me this hat I said can I post pictures on GDC and he said sure and also said they are going to tell you it is 100% original! I told him the results and he said "They don't know what they are talking about"!! Evidently this guy doesn't know anything about hats? I know absolutely nothing about them and that is why I posted it here.

SSman:

You informed this forum that you know nothing about this stuff... you are playing in a very dangerous minefield, my friend. You either need to get an education or find something else to collect. Otherwise you're going to end up with pieces like this in your collection. These forums are good, but they are not the end-all. Pictures are sometimes deceiving and it takes a hands-on inspection to tell for certain. On pieces like this, the members here have had many years of experience and can pick this stuff off at will... piece of cake!!! But there are other pieces that are almost impossible to give a 'yeah' or 'nay' too just by the photos. On the other hand, photos sometimes find the flaws. Be careful if you want to play in this sandlot... and nothing personal... we want HAPPY collectors, not people ripped off.

Bill
