German short sword. 19" blade, brass handle,left neck of sword stippled oval w/initials PDL. Right neck: crown with letters JDR. Scabbard w/possible unit markings 12.A.E.1.78.
Any assistance would be deeply appreciated.

Gary, Can only comment on the PDL,and this is the maker ( P.D. Luneschless )based in Solingen and although this is an early piece,he later manufactured in the Third Reich.Others can help you with the unit marks. See ya,Hugh.

Gary, It�s a Saxon M 1845 Faschinenmesser. Unit marked to the 12th Ersatz (Field) Artillerie regiment (Saxon No. 1) which was stationed in Dresden. I hope this helps. FP
