Hi guys well this is the day that i have dreamt of for well over 30 years...the day when I would receive that all important call from a grandchild or child or spouse etc that begins with....I saw you at a recent show and.....well I was at a local Toronto show last Saturday and display as I often do...a show attended by Paul Hogle , Darryl Pajot and others-......I was approached by a chap in his mid 60s who informed me that his father had served in the RCAF during WW2 and was based at Helmond Holland...the site of our furthermost airbase in WW2...he said that his father had brought back an SS dagger and asked if I would be interested..I requested more info and he told me that it had a black handle and a chain with skulls and SS upon it...it also had a black leather scabbard..this was all that he could tell me as he had not seen it for 22 + years as it was kept in a duffle bag..my interest was peaked...we made arrangements to meet the following day and I approached him at a local coffee shop full of skepticism....he slowly unwrapped his object from what appeared to be an old T-shirt..and there it lay...an outstanding and authentic chained SS Honour Dagger by Carl Eickhorn...it was nicely tarnished and aged..it was not without issue as it had 2 hairline cracks to the handle and a little bit of shrinkage to the scabbard leather.I slowly removed the blade from the scabbard..it wouldn't budge at first but finally did with a little coaxing. The blade was outstanding and the gilt was easily at 100%..I don't think that the blade had seen the light of day in over 60 years...he went on to tell me that when his mother pased recently his sister was going to throw the dagger out along with some canadian uniform buttons and insignia..he asked if i would be interested for $500!!!!!!!!!!....I visited the ATM and paid him immediately..........I have been staring at it ever since..I will post pics shortly...don't know whether to keep it or sell to pay off my mortgage..stay tuned for updates...cheers

Woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, the bargain of a life time my friend. Congratulation from a very, very envious Canadian collector. If you sell it, please, let it stay in Canada where it should rest. I know of a place where it would fit real nice.

I hope you did the right thing and offered them less than what they were asking for it.

Totally Astonishing! Just goes to show that The Stuff still is found in the woodwork. Not to hijack your thead as your trying to steady your hands in taking those photos of the SS chained Honor dagger - BUT- I too found something that long has thought to have been lost. Just a quick partial peek...it was last seen on the cover of Life Magazine. The Going SA Honor dagger with unique chain! No PM's please. I'm waiting for the right buyer who is serious... Now back to waiting for Tom's photos. Who says there's nothing left in Canada anymore?

Guys thanks firstly for all of the well wishes and the offers to buy....Guys yesterday was April Fools Day.....Now I couldn't put vaseline on all of your toilet seats so I thought of the next appropriate thing to do...I thought the wink at the end of the story would have told you all you needed to know...I have had good luck in my time and have picked up some amazing pieces but I have never had this good luck..I must admit that I have thought often that I might be so lucky...I am certain that there are those amongst us that have had similiar stories...my apologies if my story offended anyone...Good Hunting to All! cheers and a Happy Easter to all, Ryan

Serge (& Cie), I know that I’m late for April Fools Day. But if the guys have not beaten down your door yet with serious offers to buy, could I suggest a minor “product improvement”? May I present the new improved Göring SA chained Honor dagger. FP

Fred, Normally I would say yes but this one is a MEGA-RARE - pre-prototype "Designer's Bench" version. So Gahr marking wouldn't be proper IMHO. But Hey! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! ....there is go much original uncleaned patina in that area that if I took a little cloth ...OH NO WAY!..!! Gasp! ... -serge-

That's a "Nogoodnik" Fred: there are absolutely NO traces of cast in hallmarks! Jim

Yup, that’s me. And I can give you cast in place hallmarks . Of course they might bear a very strong resemblance to a certain “Honor” dagger. Fred

Thanks guys for all the P.M's but this is a MEGA- class type dagger for those than want the most unusual and rare. It's for those who know when they see something like this in the grip... they know. If your not well healed enough for a rarity like this - I can understand. It's not for everyone. No more photos. That's it ! Tired of explaing it all to you all the time! Go get one of them standard Huhnlein daggers. Your not going to get this gem that cheap. 0h-No.. "You No Love Me Long Time G.I. for NO 5 dallah" IN MY COLLECTION. but inquries welcome! -serge-

Ok Ok : I concede that cast in hallmarking can be provided. However doesn't the fact that the grip eagle is copper and not nickel silver take this dagger out of the "textbook" arena? Furthermore It really looks like the grips a repaint from the pictures? Jim

The whole grip looks like a one piece casting with a crude coat of thick brown paint the crossguard is totally different to the one Goering is shown with looks like a three finger louis job to me

OK. OK. To quell all the quessing I will now present a prime example that rarities are still even today, on rare occassion, found in the woodwork. -serge-

For FP and interested parties, On this final version that The ReichsMarshall is wearing I find the center scabbard fitting quite interesting compared to the Huhnlein type we see bantered about. Sooo Many variations. So little time.

You just can't beat photographic evidence of the dagger in wear.

Of course I'm joking ! Making a bit of a Satire for April Fools of all the rare vet found fakes that are coming up "out of the woodwork". Ya see this was an old Vet found rarity too. The Vet worked also for the a Hollywood Studio in the Prop dept. He could have probably made the dagger for a movie from that Life cover. Just a guess of course but look at the links in the chain. -serge-

Hey Serge, since that is a prop, does the blade come out or is the dagger one solid item, Im still curious of this rare find. Larry

Now I know that what Serge posted was a: "MEGA - RARE!!! class type dagger" that I am sure is the envy of some of the higher class of collectors that specializes in these rare and unusual items. But on a more down to earth level. A friend of mine who worked in the industry had a side collection of just studio props. Swords, bayonets, and daggers. The swords almost invariably had blades. The daggers a lesser amount. But with many of the bayonets they were one piece. EXCEPT for the older costume house blades - which had a lot of legitimate and/or surplus blades. FP
