Here's a styrene model I just finished, except for a few touch ups. Originaly produced back in the 60s. Stands approx. 8 inches high and has some pretty good detail for an old kit.

Eric, say whaaat? I started to paint them brown, but then remember either reading in book or hearing on History Ch. program that he had blue eyes, but wouldn't be the first time they have the facts wrong. Either way doesn't really matter as this isn't a historic image, or I wouldn't have painted the belt, shoulder strap, and tie black. Reasoning for doing so was to add some contrast to the look. But to be honest, that does kinda bug me about the eyes. I'll have to check it out further. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

Regards- Mike

Of course he had blue eyes, not sure if Eric is either joking or misinformed.

If Madame Tussauds, known for high accuracy in their wax figures, says they were blue, then they were blue.

Well, just did search on it, which could confuse the issue even more. I read where they were either gray, violet, or blue, but all agree that they were of a light color. There was a statement however attributed to a guote in Goebbels Diaries, Goebbels wrote about his first meeting with Hitler: "I was fascinated by Hitlers blue eyes". Traudl Junge, his last secretary (see the movie: "Der Untergang") often told in interviews, that people were amazed about Hitlers blue eyes.

Yep, there are countless period references to his striking blue eyes, the same was also said about his mother.
In the few black & white pics available of his mother, they sure do appear eerie, though of course its impossible to discern the exact hue.

Madame Tussaud really did an excellent job on the likeness and those eyes really pop don't they!

Sure enough, pretty close to what you chose, though his appeared to have been more steel blue than sky blue.

I have brown eyes, 1 of my daughters has blue, and they vary in color depending on her mood, angle and light.
I have seen them deep blue, light blue, grayish blue and nearly green.

I imagine with the wild mood fluctuations and intense pressures that Hitler was exposed to for decades, this may well have been the case for him too.

I know it can be hard to get a desired shade for eyes, I do lead & resin girls like the ones below, and eyes are usually a challenge.
You just need a speck of paint, and its hard to mix to the exact hue you have in mind, so I usually end up just using the closest color that I have, without any mixing.

Doug, you did good work on those babe figures. The female form is my favorite too. In regard to doing eyes, I found two places to purchase eye decals that are very detailed and come in all sizes. One is Zotz and the other is Archer, you can order online from either. I learned to paint eyes that look very realistic from a tutorial on www.statueforum.com but using the decals sure avoids alot of flustration.

Thanks for the links, they might come in handy as I have had about 4 models on the back burner for a couple years now, gotta dredge out my paint box and get to modeling this winter.

You're welcome, and by all means get back to slinging some paint. The statue forum has a painter's pit area that is loaded with tips and technique if interested.
