Document that was to be sent to the surviving family in 1944 for an officer who had been killed in Russia in January 1943 serving with an element of the SS-Polizei Division. It was made well after the fact, being signed in August 1944 when the division was in Greece. By that time the 3rd regiment was no longer a divisional component ( the Division was formally reduced to three regiments in April 1944) and its commander had long since transferred. The regimental title is from the period when the man was killed, the regimental stamp showing a later and the then current title when it was signed.
It is signed by eventual Swords to the Knights Cross and German Cross in Gold holder Helmut Drner, who in August 1944 was commanding SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 8 (the recently completely rebuilt and reformed original 2nd regiment of the Polizei Division). He had the rank and regimental command status to acknowledge the death of an officer serving with a component of the Division to the soldier's family. While officers signed these for officers killed, when families of NCOs received a similar document it was signed by a Battalion Commander and Enlisted Men's documents were signed by a Company level commander.
The man named on the document,Untersturmfhrer Wolfgang Dietrich, was a graduate of the 7th Wartime Cadet Class at Junkerschule Bad Tlz (commissioned on June 21, 1942). He was serving as a Zugfhrer (platoon leader) with the 8.Kompanie when killed in Russia during January 1943. His battalion was temporarily detached from the SS-Polizei Division at that time, serving in Russia as the primary component of Kampfgruppe "Fegelein," led by later Swords holder Hermann Fegelein. Fegelein's staff were prior SS cavalry personnel while the primary combat elements of the battle group were from the Polizei. That battle group existed from December 1942 to February 1943 when control of the battalion was returned to the SS-Polizei Division in Debica.
The document was a gift to me from the staff of the Prague Military Archives from their wartime holdings when I spent several days there doing research soon after the Czech Republic became a democratic country.

Very nice pics and information gents!
Here is my entry, for Category 4. This flag was captured by a New Zealander on Nissan Island (Green Islands) in February 1944. He wrote on the flag along one edge "A coy. 35 BN., 2 NZEF 1P Nissan Is. Feb 1944." I have the name of the Kiwi veteran and also a photograph of him, and a named American soldier holding this flag on Nissan. The flag is unusual in that he has outlined the large kanji in the same pen he used to write his unit and date. The Hinomaru is stitched rather than printed. The flag came with several other items he sent home from the Island to his wife. My favourite Japanese item from the whole grouping!
Regards
Russ

Plate of agitational porcelain, production of Ukrainian plant. Beginning of 1930, with the image of two competing powers of the USSR and Third Reich in the form of locomotives with the national symbols(red star and black swastika).Motto in locomotion smoke "To overtake and to outdistance" and signature on plate "On May 1 the review of the forces of the international proletariat". Will pass several years and "best" friends will become bitten enemies.
