What we have here is a war time production Browning Hi-Power. The waffenampt "WaA140" indicates late war production....1944 if I am not mistaken. All numbers match. The curious thing is the holster and the markings which have been added to the flap. It appears that a German trooper found himself in need of a holster for his pistol, and managed to obtain a USGI.45 holster. He did his best to obliterate the US embossed on the flap and then added his own marking numbers. Can anyone hazard a guess as to the significance of the German numbers? Also, any idea as to value of this outfit? It appears that the gun was reblued at some point. I may list it in the for sale forum if firearms are permitted....all rules would apply, of course.

I'd say there more of a chance that holster was added by a G.I. or postwar rather than by a German soldier. As far as value, the reblue really kills it as far as collector value.

At a gun show here 3 weeks ago the 640(b) fixed sight was going at $750 and the tagent sight model was going for $950 - weapons were in very good condition. There were also several fakes around.

I'd check Gunbroker to get an idea of actual selling prices versus asking prices.
