I am noticing a number of supposedly German reworked VZ24 bayonets with the muzzle ring removed. It is pretty easy to grind off a muzzle ring, and fake waffenamt stamps are available as well to add to the fraud. Am I being paranoid or are these Czech bayonets supposedly reworked by the Germans fakes?

It never hurts to have a little paranoia, especially if you are going into a new area. But once youve amassed a certain amount of knowledge it gets easier, and having a forum such as this one really does help with some of the basics.
Legitimate period reworks of the Vz. 24 with the muzzle rings cut off are (or used to be) fairly common. Some collectors like the different heights of the remaining stubs (high, medium, low, or completely removed). A good friend of mine had a lot of fun collecting the variations, while I personally like the OEM types. For him, the plus side was that he would find a lot to choose from. While I might have to wait a very long time before I found something that I thought was interesting.
Ive seen a very few examples where IMO the ring was cut off relatively recently. But they were the exceptions, and without any other of the German modifications as a group (IMO) not particularly desirable. With a fully intact original condition bayonet being (at least to me) much more valuable.
As for Waffenamts added: First you would have to remove the original markings. Not cost effective IMO, and I think fairly easy to detect. FP
