Just got this great WWI color pencil drawing of an older soldier who seems to have seen a lot of nasty fighting in the trenches ! Just look at the expression on his face !

Can't read the signature of the artist , but it is dated 1917.

Are you able to discern the medium? Graphite or possibly charcoal on paper?

Bernd, A beautiful drawing by a very talented artist, a great original. It reminds me of the portraits found in "Deutschlands Gegner im Weltkrieg" - that type of quality. You can see the grim reality of war etched into the man's face, that "one-thousand yard stare" of the frontline infantryman. His steel helmet is nothing short of super, you can actually feel the hardness and strength of the metal. The outline and curvature are about as perfact as one could hope for ... ever try to draw one of these? First class! Best regards, Bill
