I picked up a medal with his name on it. Is there anyway I can research more into him. I did a search on the internet and nothing. The medal is a wwii one.
Any help will be appreciated.

What type of medal is it?
I could find no record of a Edward P. Hawkes in the US Army enlistment records for WWII (there was a Edwin P. Hawkes), nor could I find anything on the WWII Memorial site.
Thus, your Hawkes could have been a commissioned Army officer, have been in the Navy, USMC or Coast Guard.
Knowing what type of medal you have could narrow the search down.

A Purple Heart,or Legion of Merit medal? There also is no listing of a Edward P. Hawkes in the Social Security Death Index.

That could be a later award so he may still be alive. Not a lot of these were awarded in WWII as they were later on for years of meritorious service and other things. It is still possible, but since he is not showing up anywhere, my guess is later.
