Hi just been given this Heer dagger from my father , its been in his collection for many years , i managed to sell an item for him so this is my payment, the quality of these daggers is fantastic, i have only ever collected bayonets before , this could all change , i think it could be addictive! The blade is not brilliant and some plating missing from the scabbard, could you tell me exactly what i now have in my collection.
Thanks

What I can see in these (few) pics it looks like you do own an early army dagger made by P.D.LNESCHLOSS. Early because the grip fittings seem to be the early brass/heavily silvered variant and the grip is a socalled slant grip. Obviously P.D.LNESCHLOSS did use grip fittings which are credited to the WKC firm. During the whole period it did happen that firms did exchange fittings or did sell their fittings to other firms which weere in need of them.
Generally the dagger seems to be in collectible condition although the recent looking, heavily polishing commonly is a big minus. Solid, original patination neds decades or at least a lot of years to build up. It is wiped off during seconds..
Also the slightly towards the tip pitted blade and the loss of plating on the scabbard is a minus but as said, the dagger is still in collectible condition. The rarer slanted grip has a nice coloration!

Nice early WKC crossguard. Fairly rare maker as far as armies go. Nice dagger!
