Actually whether this is the same dagger in my photos as the German Officer is wearing I am still trying to find out. Experts can you see something I can't? The two photos of his dagger are inconclusive to me. The hangers appear to have the same length and so does the portepee. They are standard hangers too. In may experience most hangers I have pulled out of woodwork had deluxe hangers too. The scabbard bands are a different color in his photo too (1943 by the way).

I obtained the dagger and photo album and some other small pickups from the son of US Vet. The son said his father had obtained both the dagger and the photos from the same German officer.

I have a photo album with bullion eagle applied to it (with 39 photos in the book)to a Lieutenant (with a very rare German name, maybe it's research-able). He was enlisted at the beginning of the album. He did time in Russia, went to Flak school in Bonn in 1942. It stops with his Danzig assignment.

The loose photos pickup in 1943 (there are 78 of them) and the photos continue to an assignment in Danzig (working the port)or eastern front (not sure the area, most likely Poland). They are fantastic photos from late war. Some continue into mid 1944. Nearly all the small photos are labeled on the back. Quite rare to find 43-44 dated photos from Soldiers.

Oddly, he must have been an amateur photographer. There are 125 photos of a trip he took on vacation to what appears to be Dubrovnik, Croatia. Most are street scenes and countryside and the beautiful harbor. One series shows Croatian Soldiers wearing similar uniforms to German Army marching down the street.

So, what do you think? Can it be? Oh yes, the rest of the dagger is in killer condition and there is 100% gilt on the swastika. It's an SMF with a WaAmt mark on it.

Thanks John - If someone is good at researching the German archives, I would appreciate it.

Here is another photo of him with Wolchow Stock Summer 1943, and the blade.

Croatian Soldiers marching down the street. There are half dozen of these type. Some show them in traditional uniforms.

A little close up of him and the blade. Other than a little spot where the runners touch the blade, it's in near mint condition.

There is quite a possibility that this certain man has worn this certain dagger (especially when he became officer) but in the pic as NCO I think he is wearing a 1st mod. dagger (with a white appearing grip due to reflexions; but look, the grip is much thinner than the 2nd mod. to its left and also the crossguard has a totally different look; even the pommes has another outer form).
Just my thoughts.

Wotan - I checked the photo with a magnifying glass and you are correct. His school photo is in First Model Luftwaffe dagger. However, here is a photo of him wearing his second model in May 1943. Strange......that is about the latest I have ever seen someone wearing a dagger. Note photo is backwards (negative was reversed).

Here also is a school photo of him alone and a photo of him in the field as an officer March 1943 without a dagger.

With Dagger in Reversed Photo. He looks thin and might have been sick. On back of photo it says in front of the hospital. May 1943!!!

Wotan - Something was not right. I just figured out. In the group photo, I mistakenly cropped in the wrong person. Our guy is standing to his left and wearing a 2nd Model Luft. Here they are side by side. He has the "correct" number of Gull Wings too!
