Any interest in campaign shields?

I'll start with a Kuban. Magnetic, with side tabs. Unknown maker as far as I know.

Post em if you got em. wink

Award criteria for Heer and auxiliary forces was, -

Engaged in one major operation at the bridgehead.

Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe personnel were awarded the shield based on a point system.

Joe,,, years ago they were either good or bad.. Now the last 20 years everything is a rare variant this, rare issue that... They aren't rocket science.. They go to be the easiest thing to reproduce and I think by now most who saw they can tell the difference between the ones made in the 50s in Germany or the ones reproduced I've seen in mid 90s Warsaw,,,,well,,,for me I just leave them alone..

It is a fact. You have to do your homework to collect now. It's good to have a backup knowledge base to fall back on before you purchase. Books, notes, forums. There are many examples of reproduction campaign shields. Now you have to know your metals and finishes and cloth and paper types used during the period. A collector should use magnification. Use sight and sense of smell. The Kuban example is a worn period example. My photography is not the best. smile
It would be nice to see some other originals. Not just the "it came from so and so" stories. Not to long ago items could be obtained from the vets. foot locker. Taken with a grain of salt, you still had a good chance of period items. There are many good period examples out there. Each recipient was supposed to be issued multiple shields.
So, collectors, share em if you've got em. sleep

As I mentioned earlier, not an area that I collected, but I had a search through my collection of images to see if there was anything there that may be of interest. Not a Kuban I'm afraid but a Krim.... Quite nicely detailed as well...

Don, thank you. That is a nice in-wear image of a Krim shield. Both iron cross 1st. class and 2nd. class buttonhole ribbon. Wound badge, plus another buttonhole medal ribbon.
I have a Krim shield I could post. Will see if I can get some sharp close-ups of it.

krim shield. Attributed to Deumer, 2nd. type.
Zinc base metal. magnetic flat pins. Two of which are missing.
The piece of cloth is not factory applied nor is there a back plate. (The cloth piece came stuck to the backing of a relic Krim shield that had been cut from a uniform).

An interesting looking piece Joe, thank you for showing it.

I'm still rummaging through my albums of photos & came across a Cholm in wear.... Not as nice quality as the other picture I posted above, but thought that I would post it anyway...

I'm just sorry that I have nothing more to contribute Joe, as you know combat items never were in my collecting field. I was surprised to find that I had the two images that I posted, I've no idea why I have them confused
