Looks like the pattern on a lot of fake 1960’s-1970’s fakes. I’d be very skeptical of this one, just from what I’m seeing.

A very pretty dagger. If this is a presentation piece would it have a depot issue number? Or is that the member's number? The scabbard looks oddly flat to me. Could be the scan.

I cannot really answer about this number, for me it's a serial number, but I am not an expert..

Both daggers are fake. From such bad photos I can't tell if these are completely new daggers or daggers where a fake blade has been added to the original fittings. Both blades are made using acid damascus. Although, the blade says Real Damascus on it. Also, the number 7806 is too big, there were no such numbers.

First of all, non of these daggers, although marked "ECHT DAMASZENER" has real damast steel blades, both are clearly etched damast pattern. So no "ECHT DAMASZENER".

You're making the same mistake as the copy masters. It comes from poor knowledge of the language and lack of information. Many fakemackers thought that this term meant acid etching of the damask pattern on ordinary steel, and began to replicate the rose ornament on the surface of the blades. In fact, it was Damascus steel with a complex pattern and cost much more than just Damascus steel of the so-called maiden hair pattern.

The dagger was sold by Affiliated Auctions out of Tallahassee, FL. Don’t look for too many period items on their auctions or you’ll be sorely disappointed. Many many humped up pieces and outright fakes within their inventory.
