I know the hang tag thing seems over done by myself. But I want to show you what I mean and the issues I have. Long story but here goes. I got into collecting brass US eagles mostly from flag pole tops. Like German things the are also called pole toppers.. I don't own a book on it I just seem them and like them. So I'll show you 3 photos and let you do some leg work on the internet. If you choose? That are actually very beautiful but hard to nail down as to dates made. So I'll do one at a time. I'm no pro here just love the look of them.
Ok so 1st is this fits in my hand I've seen when people reference it as civil war era but the lower section is quite small for a pole top or topper again I'm not a pro here just what I read on the net.
This weighs about 2 pounds it's quite heavy. I don't think it's civil war but more like 1900s

Ok 2nd is this eagle.wow way bigger much heavier. Has a drain hole top and bottom for moisture. I e seen these for sale and sold as civil war era pole toppers. I doubt it as a few I've seen have different mounting that the claws per he's on a glove. Again I'm no pro I love it. Seen one seller say he found a reference this was made from 1909- 1919. I'm leaning that way but no real facts.

And lastly is this cast iron halberd. These were used in the civil war as pole toppers also. Not just some 16 th 17 th century thing. I've seen this exact item refered to as civil war here and sold as such.. it's the correct configuration but it's not sharp at all. I assume it's alnock off and I used this as a kid in the 60s and 70s to play. It's screwed to the wood and untill a bit ago was wrapped with leather. No biggie to remove it. Great memories here so my point is over time things get lost as to if they are reproduced or the real deal. This is just civil war era stuff of which I'm no expert. I dearly love each of these things for different reasons. But maybe one or all are good but I doubt it. I don't want a generation or 2 down the road confused as to what is what if possible. Bret
