The silver pendant is about 3,8x3,8cm. Silverstamp on the rear 825 .
Due to aging it is completely blackened and has 3 glass- or rubi stones .
It looks esoteric/ occult/, period ca. 1920 ?

It looks like a version of the Caduceus. This is an ancient symbol for medicine. The snake figure was associated with Asclepios, the Greek God of medicine. It was supposed to have curative properties. It’s still used today.

Cool pendant! By the gems it looks like early to mid 1900s. And as SpiritfireVb said, it looks like a custom-made Caduceus. Maybe the person it belonged to was something in the medical organisation? Nurse or something and got it as a gift or maybe some special award. Looks like one of a kind, nice pendant indeed.

Could be from anywhere that used that silver mark. Maybe even '70s hippy or Druid culture. The bottom looks like a millipede - Maybe seen through a a haze of marijuana ?

The two suspension brackets suggest anything ?

It does resemble the Flight Surgeon and Flight Nurse wings of WW11, I just checked my wings.
Very neat piece.

Thank you all for your reply !

I found some more info about the Caduceus.
the Caduceus is a very ancient symbol and has many meanings and from around 1900 studied by the Germans; it has an Esoteric component.
The curled snakes are also the symbol for rebirth and death. Maybe it is just a Völkisch womans pendant?

Thanks so far.

From the attachment points, I do not think it was used as a pendant.

It was pinned TO something, IMO. Those bars went through a pair of slits in cloth (or thin metal?) and a thin sliver of metal or wood was then inserted though the bars as a keeper.

Benten, yeah at first glance I thought it was celtic, so it definitely resembles something more than just the standard Caduceus. I bet the gems, wings, snakeform, and the little moon at the very end all have a special meaning. Could be a cult thing.

Great piece!! , nice and thick/beefy! It's old with the cabochon cut like that..825,Europe, German .. Love that bit of unevenness on the 2 swirls under the 'gems'!

- * Might be worth to have a jeweler check if glass or Ruby or very early Swarovski gem etc..

Difficult to say whether pinned thru or had a chain to it . Folkish,,Volk, German.. There are old catalogs and collectors out there. Maybe something will pop up!

Mikee, I agree with you, the red gems.... I don’t think the gems are just placed random. but to create an owls face, indeed !
The spirals below the gems gives this item together with the gems, a mysterious sphere….

Gaspare,
Yes, “Völkisch” .” The Völkisch Movement”…It had mystical ! roots and believed in the Traditions and the cults of the Old Germans, which influenced the Nazis .

German Occultists that influenced the Nazis:
-Wiligut; advisor of Himmler ……........ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Maria_Wiligut
-Ludendorff ww1 general and his wife.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathilde_Ludendorff
-Eckhart mentor of Hitler…………… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dietrich_Eckart

Mikee, Gaspare , thanks for your reply.

Mikee, You mentioned the Freemasons . I found some good info of Wikipedia about the Freemasons in Germany. They were esoteric too . So also an option for this pendant/brooch .
