Well, just for a go round question, hate to see PVON doing all the starting up.
Why didn't the Germans put a FW190 or a ME109 on a etched bayonet?/ All I see are the bi-planes, the observer craft and the ones with the Stuka on them.
Really the same for the Panzer bayonets, seems they just carried over the pre-war craft to the etches.
I know this would have cost a lot to do, but they sure did not hesitate to spend money elseware on edge weapons.
Always wondered,

Ed,

Good question to which we'll probably find no documented answer.

My thinking is as follows:

Most of the Luft etched bayonets we see are from the pre-war years when bi-planes were still in use ... Like our Grumman F3F. The Stuka was the first famous fighter plane of the Luftwaffe. Used in 1937 in Spain by the Condor Legion, then in Poland then Holland, Belgium, Norway, etc. The Heer was using PzKw III and IV at the time. A lot of those bayonets were retirement gift and those planes and tanks were what was famous then.

By the time WWII began in earnest, edged weapons of the dress variety, such as daggers and dress bayonets, had given way to pistols.

That is a good topic question!

To be honest when I spotted etched Luft bayonets in posted section I got excited!

Who would not like to see etched luft bayonets!

Maybe we could get John Z or Billy to show us what your talking about on etched lufts!!!!

I bet John Z could pull out some beauties! Others also!

I don't believe I have had but maybe 2 in all my yrs!

Now Panzers are nice also!

Good answer Dave

Retirement gifts! Maybe others have some thoughts that handle them! Lets add some stag handles with them!

Has Tom W done anything on them?

Thanks for getting it going Dave!

Woton or Billy or Herman have some with knots and bags!

Hi Pvon and Ed,

Regarding etched Luft bayonets, I’ve got precisely none, sorry to say. Etched Luft daggers would be a different story entirely but I never made the plunge into the etched KS98s.

John Z. or Mat J. would be my suggestions for guys that could show a hefty lineup or Solingen’s finest.

John,

They’re all beautiful but that Krebs Stuka takes the cake!

Once again, you have beautiful etched bayonets, and yes, the Krebs rules once again.
The Stuka being the only German WW11 fighter I have seen.
Do you know why the #rd Reich did not get planes such as the 109 or 190 on bayonets?
I would think that the top Aces of Germany, and there were many, would have loved that.
Thanks for showing those beauties,
Ed

The Eickhorn has the 35-41 seated squirrel TM and is found in the 1938 catalog.

The Packs small plane is the earliest, followed by the large C31, both found in the Pack catalog shown in Wayne's book. The Oval is the latest version, imho.

The Legion Condor is from around 38 or so.

I have no idea why, other than the Stuka, there were no modern planes on etches, although the observer plane was in production from 38 until after the war.
