Hello experts.

I want to buy this dagger. It is selling with a Certificate of Authenticity. I only need the one Dagger, I do not collect daggers. This one is of course very expensive. Please look at the photos, what do you think? There is tool damage on the nut. But in the direction of securing the nut. There is black glue around the eagle or is it done with fire while attaching the eagle. What is this? I don't see any ugly wood-to-metal connections, it looks good is my opinion. Blade, wear is shown, I understand that it was cleaned and sharpened. The question is - is this the original acid etching or we have reason to think that they applied the Röhm signature and then cleaned the traces of acid on the blade after war? Does this dagger have a chance - is it all original?

Regards
Viktor

Hello Vik,

Kober Röhm SA's are very rare, so there is not a lot to compare with...

But I do have some doubts when I look at these pictures:

- the etchings of the maker mark and the inscription look quite different: dark and thin for the MM, and large and grey for the inscription.
- the cross grain looks unusual, maybe it has been redone after the inscription was added.
- the grip might have been treated to make it "blond", unlike Haenel, Kober did not use this very light type of wood.

Anyway, this piece needs a in hand inspection to be sure about the authenticity, especially of the Röhm inscription.

Who was signing the certificate of authenticity of this one?

Best regards,

Herman
