Please correct me if I'm off here,,,, - I think they were the predecessor to the PAB[?]

I used to love these and had many . The water got most but maybe I can find some photos,,, and think I still have a couple examples, Will try and post in the next couple days..

Very interesting question. I'm really not sure, but others will be.
I was always under the impression that the IAB was for ground troops, Infantry, and the PAB was for Armored troops.

The IAB was for Infantry and Mountain Infantry, the PAB was for Panzer crew members, and the GAB was for Assault participants not qualified for the IAB or PAB. Later, a bronze IAB was for Motorized Infantry, and a bronze PAB was for Panzer Grenadiers .
