Paul,

Thanks man. This style never did much for me but it grew on me over a few years. I had another shooting prize with the Polizei style hilt and scabbard that was gilted and triple etched and triple marked by Horster. It was of similar quality but I like this Weyersberg better.

John

Very nice dedication, to a mine sweeper unit I think. Nice too that yours has a blue or blackening in the etch, really makes it jump out at the viewer.

A beautiful item!

And pictures capture engraving and bayonet very well!

John

Would Eickhorn have done the engraving?

My guess is it was jeweler done post-purchase. Definitely cheaper than having Eickhorn do an etch template for it.

I agree with Billy, probably jeweler done. It doesn't look like an etch that Eickhorn would offer.

Here's something you don't see everyday, a Polizei Seitengewehr from Baden. The pommel is curved over to comply with the Treaty of Versailles requirement of no bayonets that were able to be attached to a rifle.

I've owned these with the short blade (about 17") and the long blade (22" + or - from memory), this is the shorter one with a 3R period maker mark. I've owned it maybe 20 years and it took me almost as long to find the right knot in the right condition.

Here's the maker mark. Although earlier versions of this bayonet sported 3 rivet grips, WKC apparently kept the 3 rivet thing going into the 3R when other makers had gone to 2.

Thanks Paul,

These police pieces as well as the other German state pieces are very interesting to me. There’s a lot of history with them and their evolution. I’ve seen these Baden pieces in both silver and gold, the theory being similar to that on Feuerwehr items, that the gold pieces might indicate higher rank. The Sachsen pieces are also quite interesting.

Regarding the Baden knot, its probably worth most of the value of the bayonet, if not equivalent to it. I’ve seen only 4 that I’m aware of in 20 or so years. Weitze had an unissued example however it was misidentified as a Justiz knot. The colors are similar, I’ll admit, but a Justiz knot more closely resembles a Feuerwehr knot, except that the silver is replaced by gold.

Welcome Wschmidt

Big thanks for sharing your bayonets!

You have a large selection indeed!

I see a few had some type of knot attached!

You never know whats going to be attached!

So are you just a bayonet collector?

As you see in this thread collectors seem to collect a wide variety!

I’d guess the top one is an Alcoso and the bottom one is a ‘35-‘41 Eickhorn.

Hi Bill and Pvon: from top to bottom: Clemen & Jung, Alcoso, WKC, Horster, Horster (rural), Eickhorn (large double oval), Eickhorn ('35-41').
Recently added: Paul Weyersburg, Ewald Cleef

Looking for: FW Holler, PD Luneschloss, E Pack, Eickhorn (small double) and any others I don't have. :-)

To me there's just something 'special' about Police Bayonets. I'm sure others feel the same way about what they collect.
Lots of quality in the mixture of steel, stag grips and leather plus most PBs span two prolific periods in German history. They're also still affordable and undervalued IMO

Fitzer,

A very nice lineup but you’re in desperate need of a clamshell! And about Puma and Carl Julius Krebs? And don’t forget an “over the shoulder” Eick.

I agree with your view on these things, they have a lot of history that overlaps two distinct periods in 20th Century Germany. Most are well made and hold up good to the rigors of time.
