Hi:
Have any of you ever seen "AL PAPARELLI" stamped on a bayonet? The name is stamped in uncharacteristic type across the metal portion of the back of the handle of the bayonet. I'm wondering if it's the name of a veteran who might have brought it back. Or maybe the name of a dealer who sold them after the war. It's on a 42aSW. I did see that the "I" at the end of the stamping was made by an upside down "1". I'm puzzled by this mark... Any advice or insight would be helpful. Thanks!

That's what I'm thinking. How much does it hurt value? Any idea? It's on a 42aSW that has lost a lot of bluing, but has matching numbers and is in otherwise good condition... Just curious.

Dwight,
How did you find this info so quickly? I was recently trying to research a friend's father and ran into all sorts of road blocks.
Thanks, Lance

Lance, The National Archives has digitized several million U.S. Army enlistment records from World War II. It's located here: http://aad.archives.gov/aad/fi...tf=F&cat=WR26&bc=,slIt's not totally complete, but it's invaluable when doing research.

Awesome detective work. Doesn't the son bear a resemblance to Harvey Keitel?

The AL PAPARELLI arried in the mail today and I was very pleased. The finish on the scabbard is 100 percent with one ding. The hilt and pommel show wear but the wood is good as are the screws. It has two Waffen amps on the pommel and one on the nob on the scabbard. The numbers match and look great. The stamping is awesome (This is my first matching No. bayo, so I'm pretty proud). The blade has been polished to the point where almost all the original bluing is gone, that's the rough part, but I knew that going in. Now if I can just get some more provenance. I'm working on that. Thanks everybody for the help and advice!
