Gents,

I recently acquired a rather scarce Spanish American War tunic that I thought I would show. These distinctive lightweight khaki tunics were US issue that were made in theater that replaced the blue wool uniforms that US troops had been given in the States. These tunics pre-dated the khaki tunics with colored cuffs and shoulder straps that were also issued in the Philippines. Notice this early tunic is made more on the British khaki pattern and that it has no lower pockets. Also, notice the wide pleats on the front that peter out below the waist. Photos of US troops in the Philippines wearing these tunics can be found in the literature. The original removable buttons were khaki cloth covered and they were often replaced with brass buttons. These removable buttons have been replaced with postwar brass buttons as was common.

Thanks ORPO, I don't remember seeing that style of uniform previously. The thing that strikes me is the fantastic condition of the jacket.

Thanks for the kudos Dave. This particular style of Summer weight khaki tunic is often mis-identified. I found this one all wrinkled up on a show table piled high with misc military stuff and I only had to break out my steam iron when I got home to bring it up to this condition.
