Just a question to my fellow collectors in the US - two weeks ago I have bought a naval dagger from Johnsons and according to the tracking it went to JFK transfer facility in New York over a week ago , and no movement since 25 08 - last month I got a sword from Wittmann in six days to my door in Australia so I m a little concerned that it may have disappeared. Does it happen that things get stolen from those facilities , or is there just such backlog and not enough planes flying at the moment that such long delay can happen. Thanks for your help Helmut

USPS is a terrible joke/st. show. When you open an inquiry they respond your case is resolved even though the parcel is still missing. Although sometimes eventually packages will still show up that are lost...they are clueless and uncaring...one of the worst company's america has. Not just a opinion but a fact.

Things are messed up at JFK. You hit it correctly: backlog and not enough planes flying .. And,,, They randomly select packages to be ex rayed / checked .. Then they just sit,,and sit,,and eventually get ex rayed and the package starts moving again.
It will be more time,,,but if the tracking says its there it is,,,,,,You will get it eventually!

I have found the USPS and other government post offices across the world to be the safest and cheapest way of getting items to or from my house, but not the fastest.
Lately, I have seen a significant slow down of processing from Europe, Russia and the US, mostly Covid related, I think.
In particular, the USPS has suffered a slowdown caused by Covid and also, IMHO, by deliberate government actions designed to discredit mail voting and to devalue the post office so that it can be 'privatized' and massive new fees introduced.
So, I patiently wait for delivery from Norway (sent July 7th) and from Russia (sent July 13).

I would suggest you ask the seller to open an investigation.. Sounds like it may be going through customs which can sometimes take over a month. When I opened a inquiry on a parcel mailed may 27 half the tracking disappeared. It got from germany in days but once usps got possession it has been in limbo ever since. I hope you get your item but usps has lost many items through registered (safest??) mail. Should be insured but it totally sux that items that have survived near 100 years are in the hands of a company who just dont care and get paid either way. Best of luck and I feel your pain on this issue. Wish there was a answer outside of filing a claim.

thank you so much for all your thoughts , really appreciate it I had quite a few daggers sent over the last two years and it took normally between 7 - 14 days depending on customs here in australia ,only once a RLB was missing at arrival here and for two months I persisted and bugged everyone from police to customs from postal service to the ministers in charge and finally when involving federal police a very kind officer searched and found it , probably in a drawer ready to be smuggled out at the right opportunity I hope it will show up eventually thanks for your help Helmut

Tell the seller to ask to speak with the Postal Inspectors. They get results

it finally arrived today - five weeks - I wouldn`t even be too annoyed if USPS only would send or update the place where the parcel is - even now after being delivered it still shows it s in the same place where it arrived in australia 10 days ago. Are there any international couriers which you had good experience with Thanks for your help Helmut

A private vendor/shipper,,,something lost 3, 4 weeks and sometimes its a good chance you will never see it.... Guess everyone has their own experiences etc. So,, at least show the piece for the dagger guys!

I try to always use government postal services even knowing that they will be slower ( and cheaper and safer).
Recent examples.
Small package from Norway mailed July 17, arrived Sept 15. Small package from UK arrived in a week. Small package from Russia mailed July 17, still not arrive. Dagger from US arrived in 10 days.
So, I don't get worried until 6 weeks go by, even 8 from Russia.
