Do Weyersburg Army daggers have a flaw in the pebbling near the throat of the scabbard?

I heard this the other day and have a hard time believing that every Weyersburg Army dagger scabbard had this flaw.

Please straighten me out on this.

I have owned 6 and i have seen at least 20 pieces that all have that flaw.
Perhaps Tom, Kevin or Danny can confirm also.

Cheers

In my experience all Weyersberg scabbards have some kind of casting flaw near the scabbard throat. However, because of patina not all of them are very easy to spot. A good close up picture of the scabbard throat would help.

The Army dagger scabbards made by Paul Weyersberg & Co. have a distinctive characteristic, a straight line of dots on the left side of the pebbling from the throat to the upper band. This line appears on both the front and back of the scabbard. Not sure this would be considered a flaw wink

Here is the best photo that I have. I saw the two lines on both sides of the scabbard. Is this what we are talking about.

Yes the Weyersberg scabbard flaw is a feature seen on most Weyersberg army daggers. This feature was discovered and revealed to the collectors by our late dear friend Ford Crews.

Way late on the response here but seems that JimW?s question was not answered.. here is the pic Vern posted with arrow pointing out the small but significant flaw.. yes it?s that tiny line between the pebbling coming down from the throat.. Best, Kevin.

Ford Crews, a former member of GDC and an expert of early Heer daggers made this discovery approx 10 years ago, or more and posted it on the forun. All I can say about it, it is a fact. I had almost a dozen early Weyersbergs in my collection - still have 6 or 7 - and all of them has the flaw on the scabbard.
