Hi Mike,

All I can add is that I have about 100 TR rings, I think they are all good but, even if one or two of them are dodgy, not one has a DRGM mark.

DRGM stands for Deutsches Reichs Gebrauchs Muster and denoted a German patent of some sort. It was never I used on rings. Any DRGM-marked ring is a dud.

Cheers,

Stephen

Here I am contradicting myself. Won't be the first time! blush In fact, I just noticed that one of my SS rings does indeed have 'DRGM' engraved on the inside of the band. It is a nice ring, although quite worn. I have had it for a long time and it came from a trusted source so I have always believed that it is real. Perhaps not.

Is there any consensus on whether DRGM dooms a ring to Fakeland or is it actually seen on some authentic rings? If anyone knows, it'll be one of you guys.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

This was brought back from the WWII time period. If this is a fake, then there were fakes made during WWII.

Here is a follow-up link that discusses this subject a bit more, in detail...the good and bad.

So the clear consensus on the skull ring is that it is a fantasy. Even I knew that.

How about the original subject of the thread, the SS ring? I think its probably a dud (Dammit!) but I am still confused as to whether DRGM kills it or not. Gaspare?

S Vb.....,

About the SS ring,,paste up one of these links and you'll even see the 2 piece original die!,,and a gold example made from the dies as a one piece,,check out the links...

,,,Well technically one could.. IF it had a unique type of joining system,,or lets say something like a adjustable sizer, etc. ..The mark could legally appear..
Possible? yes,, probable? well not something your going to see on one of our standard patterns we collect. Maybe a prototype or tester type pattern..............,G.

for those having trouble getting link. Here are the dies.. Meant to have a interchangeable cartouche.. The 2 piece [with real enamel!] SS dies.

There is no mass produced made for retail ring with the SS motto on it...

With these dies my old friend had this gold example made. They made it one piece as it was much simpler according to the jeweler... The same happened to the Pz ring [with skull] most are one piece... There is a certain dealer who until recent last time I looked has the Pz die I believe! He's done some 'work' to it and has a big write up about how rare it is etc etc crazy.

When my friend passed on his collection was sold but these SS dies were nowhere to be found!

Thanks Gaspare,

As always, your ring knowledge is amazing. Well, the SS ring that I posted is certainly a two-piece: silver shank and a brass cartouche, as you see in the pics. Also, the black enamel passes the hot pin test; it is not plastic.

The band has either broken or perhaps was made with a gap to allow different finger sizes, but it was already soldered (very badly) when I obtained the ring. It looks to me like it was made that way (split, not soldered). I am inclined to believe that it is real and as you say, it is possible that it is!

Thanks again. Hope you had a good time in Vancouver.

please so there is no misunderstanding... IF it is DRGM stamped but in that SS 2 piece ring it is 100% fake.. The dies I show were made in the 1960s in Europe under contract from a infamous California dealer.... The 2 piece SS , later one piece and one piece Pz [skull with SS motto] are 4th reich pieces.. I had to do a lot of travel and investigation at my own time and cost to get photos of the dies and information years ago..

Well, you cannot be much clearer than that! I was right in the first place. DRGM means Dodgy! That should teach me not to contradict myself! :o)
Thanks, Gaspare. Understood!
